001 Once more, with feeling


So today, I restart the development of Chronicle Destiny. I have been working on this project, in some form, since about 2010. Started in XNA, and it was going to be a side-scrolling beat 'em. At the beginning of the year, I explored to possibility of developing it with Godot, espesially with the recent release of v4. Ultimately, I decided to continue with GameMaker. I have been using GameMaker since at least 2003, so I technically have over 20 years of experience 😜. There are prior attempts in GameMaker for Chronicle Destiny, however I decided to start all over again... again. I will focus on the minimal viable product. This consists of four milestones. 

  1. Basic real-time dialog input - consists of how the player will access and interact with the dialog interface. 
  2. Dialog data and states - for the dialog to access the proper text and properly cycle thru its states. 
  3. Story beats - for the dialog to be able to affect the story state, and for other story elements to be able to affect dialog. 
  4. Isometric visuals - to develop the art direction and the framework to implement it, be it billboarding or simple models. 

These milestones have been accomplished before, in separate projects. With this renewed effort, I will focus on bringing those elements together, in one project, without the additional bloat, feature creep, that past projects have suffered. It will require focus and discipline. So, hope I can make it.

I will focus on the web build, as it will make development and feedback widely accessible. The Windows build is also available. Linux, Mac and Android builds will be in future builds. The code will be accesible at Github, alongside art assets. The development will be open. feedback is encouraged.  So, hope all go well going foward.
